Dr. Els PG Pieper


Dr Els PG Pieper is associate professor of cardiology in the University Medical Center, Groningen, the Netherlands. Since 20 years she is director of the adult congenital heart disease program in Groningen, the Netherlands. Her main research interest is in pregnancy and heart disease and she is project leader of the Dutch ZAHARA studies, that resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications and in several PhD theses. She is involved as a National Coordinator in the European Society of  Cardiology ROPAC Pregnancy Registry.  She was member of the task force of the ESC that constructed guidelines for the management of pregnant women with heart disease. She also participated as member of the task force for the guidelines on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where she was responsible for the section on reproductive issues. She organizes a yearly Dutch symposium on pregnancy and heart disease. She is president of the Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology. She is an active member of the International Society of Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ISACHD), being chair of the Education Working Group and European representative, and organizing a web-based course on adult congenital heart disease. Her other regions of expertise are echocardiography and valvular disease.
