BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Avraham Shotan is a graduate of the Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Hadassah Medical Center, Ein Karem, Jerusalem, from 1980 to 1982. He then undertook his cardiology residency and served as a senior cardiologist at the Heart Institute, Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel, from 1982 to 2002.

From 1990 to 1992, he completed a fellowship at USC–LAC Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, USA, under the supervision of Prof. Uri Elkayam.

Dr. Shotan served as Head of the Heart Institute at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, Hadera, Israel, from 2002 to 2018. Since 2018, he has been a senior cardiologist at the Heart Institute, Laniado Medical Center, Netanya, Israel.

He was a co-founder and the first secretary of the Israeli Working Group on Heart Failure (2000–2004) and is a co-founder and co-chairman of the Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy (CPP) Congresses (2010–present). He also served as Head of Cardiology at the Rapaport Medical School, Technion, Haifa, Israel, from 2015 to 2018.

Currently, Dr. Shotan is a Clinical Professor at the Edelson Medical School, Ariel University, Israel (2019–present), a member of the National Heart Transplantation Committee (2020–present), and an honorary member of the Israeli Heart Society.
