Afshan B. Hameed, MD, MBA, is Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and a Cardiologist at the University of California, Irvine. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Committed to improve maternal morbidity and mortality particularly due to cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hameed has served on the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) pregnancy mortality surveillance system since 2006. Co-Chaired Cardiovascular disease in pregnancy and Venous Thromboembolism Toolkit published by CMQCC and AIM: Cardiac Conditions in Obstetrical Care bundle published in 2021. Served on the ACOG Presidential Task Force to develop Practice Bulletin on Heart Disease in Pregnancy. Co-chaired the AIM Cardiac Conditions in Obstetrical Care bundle published in 2022. Dr. Hameed has funding from NIH and Betty and Moore Foundation to advance CVD risk assessment in pregnancy and postpartum period.
