BIOGRAPHY

Abha Khandelwal, MD, MS is a Clinical Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University and serves as the Cardiac Director of the Stanford Maternal Heart Program. A dedicated leader in both patient care and operational excellence, she is the Ambulatory Clinic Chief for Cardiovascular Medicine, the Non-Invasive Cardiology Section Chief, and the Quality Champion for Stanford’s Cardiovascular Medicine division.

Holding a Master’s degree in the Management of Information Systems, Dr. Khandelwal actively integrates technology to optimize operations and improve quality outcomes within cardiovascular ambulatory clinics. Her clinical and research pursuits are deeply focused on cardio-obstetrics, women’s heart health, and preventative cardiology in high-risk populations. Driven by a core mission to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease, she has played a vital role in multicenter and state-based initiatives aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of women with peripartum cardiomyopathy.

At Stanford, Dr. Khandelwal collaborates closely with maternal-fetal medicine, anesthesia, and behavioral health teams to implement comprehensive care programs for high-risk pregnant individuals. Furthermore, she leverages digital health innovations to improve the cardiometabolic profiles of postpartum women with a history of gestational diabetes and hypertension. She is an active member of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Scientific Advisory Committee and the Council on Clinical Cardiology..
